Hailey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - In a statement this Thursday afternoon, Blaine County Sheriff Gene Ramsey said that Captain Steve Harkins has been appointed Chief Deputy.

Harkins has 23 years of experience in law enforcement and will be replacing former Chief Deputy Ed Fuller who retired last month after 29 years of service. Harkins began his career as a patrol officer for the Hailey Police Department in 1992 before coming to Blaine County as a Detective in 1997.

After 12 years in investigations and heading the Blaine County Narcotics Enforcement Team he became the Ketchum Police Chief in June of 2009. As the Ketchum Chief he has created an outstanding relationship between the city and county by saving tax payer dollars and increasing levels of service and professionalism.

In his new position as the Undersheriff for the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office Harkins will work closely with the new Ketchum Police Chief, when selected, to ensure a continued relationship and a seamless transition.
