Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT) - Fire crews have been battling two good-sized brush fires near Bliss over the weekend. At around 2:30 Saturday afternoon, lightning strikes sparked the Windmill Fire roughly five miles southwest of Bliss; this brush fire burned 27-hundred acres.

Monday, fire fighters from the Boise Bureau of Land Management packed it in, as the effort wound down.

According to Assistant Fire Management Officer Shane McDonald with BLM said, “At the end of the shift Monday, they plan to return all of the Twin Falls BLM fire engines and fire dozers back to their own stations. And we'll probably monitor it tomorrow, if they feel the need to.”

McDonald says BLM fire crews from Idaho Falls and Salmon have been standing by in Shoshone to help deal with the initial attacks on any new fires that might crop up.

He says that windy conditions also added to the challenge of putting out fires in Magic Valley.

“We do have a red flag warning for high winds and low relative humidity out in the western part of the district here.”

The Clover Road Fire also started up this weekend, about six miles north of Bliss and has burned about 2400 acres; McDonald says roughly 120 fire fighters were on the lines for each blaze.

He says the fire flared up last night, which pushed back the estimated containment time, but fire fighters hoped to get a handle on the clover road fire by early evening.

“So they're going to keep all of their resources on scene through Monday, and look at starting to scale back Tuesday, probably by sending our neighbors' resources back to Boise.”
