Blown Transformer Causes Large Blaze Along I-84
Bliss, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - At around 1 O’clock Thursday afternoon, a large fire was ignited along Interstate 84 causing a large plume of smoke to be seen from miles away.
At 1:07 Thursday afternoon crews from multiple rural fire departments from around the Bliss area responded to reports of a fire along Interstate 84 right next to the Tutle exit. According to police at the scene, at around 1 a transformer experienced an overload and blew. Sparks from the transformer then fell to the ground igniting the blaze. A few buildings were in the general area but crews worked quickly to make sure the fire didn't spread to any of the structures. Idaho Power was on the scene immediately and worked to cut off the power to the surrounding areas as fire began to envelope other power lines.
