Boating Safety Reminders

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )

The Twin Falls County Sheriff's office would like to remind boaters to stay safe this summer.

One problem they encounter is boaters operating under the influence.
Like driving, there are strict penalties in place for those who are found boating while drinking.

Lieutenant Daron Brown with the Twin Falls County Sheriff's office explains some tips for boaters.

Says Brown, "Know your equipment and know your abilities. By all means, don't boat while intoxicated. Unfortunately we have to recover victims every year for making bad mistakes."

According to statistics from the U.S. coast guard, boaters with a BAC above .1% are ten times more likely to die in a boating accident.

We'll be discussing more on this topic on connections airing June 14th and 15th.
