Body Shops Busy Following Thursday's I-84 Pile-up
Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV/KTWT-TV) Thursday's massive pile–up on Interstate–84 involved 17 vehicles. Eight were commercial trucks, while the remaining were passenger cars. A number of those ended up at area body shops.
It's not very often we see a crash of this magnitude in the Magic Valley.
And fortunately, no one sustained any injuries Thursday. But many of the motorists involved had to call insurance agencies, check body shops and find ways to repair their ride.
Wrecks, big or small mean potential business for body shops.
Eli Thompson, Snake River Auto Body says, "we're one of the busiest shops in the area, the whole Magic Valley and we like fixing wrecks."
This subaru fell victim to Thursday's 17 car pile–up on Interstate 84."
Snake River Auto Body received two vehicles from the I–84 pile–up.
"We've got at least 15 wrecks from this storm alone," adds Thompson.
Three cars from Thursday's accident ended up at Rob Green Body Shop, including this one with significant front end damage.
Mike Nielsen, Body Shop Manager, Rob Green says, "the most serious one that we saw from Thursday was a front and rear hit."
Looking ahead...local forecasters anticipate daytime highs only reaching the upper 20's and lower 30's for much of the valley. That means the snow isn't going anywhere for the next few days.
"Typically we'll see an influx of towed–in vehicles versus drive–in vehicles," adds Nielsen.
And if you don't take precautions, you could be their next customer.
Thompson says, "slow down, give yourself plenty of room between cars, plenty of room to stop, wear your seatbelt."
Idaho State Police blamed heavy fog and icy conditions for the crash.
