BUHL, ID (KMVT) The Idaho State Board of Education has officially adopted a rule that requires high school seniors to take two credits worth of online classes before they can graduate.

Right now 84 students at Buhl High School are taking 34 different classes online. They're doing everything from making up an Algebra class they've failed to learning Mandarin Chinese.

Seth Blick, instructor at Buhl High School says, "This is our first semester and we're trying to get the parents involved and explain to them how online learning works, and help them assist their student in their online learning."

Blick says colleges are trying to get more students, and digital learning is a great way for people whose schedules don't match up with class times on campus. He says students will need to learn how to take classes online in high school so they know how to do it in college.

Roger Keller, Principal of Buhl High School, says, "This being the first year, we're going to learn what works in this type of learning environment, and look at the data we're given from it, and make improvements as we move along."

Keller says most of the online classes offered by Buhl High School are through the Idaho Digital Learning Academy. The high school's computer lab has 24 computers, and Blick says each of the eight daily classes have between 16 and 20 students attending.

Blick says, "I think that this will definitely help our students become more successful later on in their college careers, having the study skills that are best going to be suited for their college courses."
