BUHL, ID (KMVT) Target Stores are known for giving back to their communities.

Target and the Ellen Show teamed up to give away a total of five million dollars. Split that 50 ways, and you get $100,000 per school. One Magic Valley school district managed to win one of those prizes.

On her show, Ellen DeGeneres said, "This season I've been asking you all to write in and tell us about schools, teachers, and principals that are making a difference in your community. We received thousands and thousands of e-mails."

Carla Critchfield, parent and Buhl school patron, says, "The good news is we got $100,000 for the district, so we're very, very excited. We're one of the two school districts in the nation, along with 48 other schools, to get the $100,000."

Critchfield says the Buhl School District wants to use the money for their libraries, textbooks, and technology for the elementary and middle schools. That would allow the younger students to use tablet computers to access things like electronic textbooks,

Byron Stutzman, Buhl School District Superintendent, says, "In a budget the size that we have, $100,000 is a lot of money. But it's still a ways from where we should be."

Stutzman says the State of Idaho funds technology for high school students, but younger students will need to use those same tools in their classrooms. In order to make the $100,000 go farther, Critchfield wants to see if she can get matching grants to increase the money two, three, or even four times.

Critchfield says, "We're going to be able to give out kids some of the latest and greatest in technologies and different things that we couldn't do."
