Fast Moving Wildfire Causes Road Closures

Carey, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - UPDATE: The fast moving Preacher Fire, six miles southwest of Carey is forcing road closures.

The Blaine County Sheriff has issued temporary road closures at the junction of Highway 20/26 in Carey and Highway 26/93 in Richfield.

The now 3,500 acre fire is being fueled by high winds.

It was reported Monday just before three, at that point it was roughly 400 acres.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but lightning may be to blame.

A fire on BLM Land is quickly growing at this time. About 400 acres are on fire, 6 and a half miles southwest of Carey near Preacher Bridge. The cause of the fire is undetermined but lightning was spotted in the area right before the fire. The blaze reported at 2:45 pm has about 40 personnel on scene along with 4 engines, 2 dozers 1 water tender, 4 single engine air tankers, a helicopter, an air attack and one heavy air tanker. Much more support is headed to the scene officials say. At this time the fire is not near any private land and no structures are threatened.
