Burley Church Rescuing Wasted Food
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Americans toss out $165 billion worth of food each year.
According to CBS News, that amounts to 20 pounds per person each and every month.
But one local organization makes it a priority to rescue wasted food.
Mountain View Christian Center in Burley rescues food by receiving donations from a number of partnering agencies.
Many of the products they receive come from companies such as McCains, Albertsons and potato growers.
"Rescuing food from the dumpster before it gets to the dumpster is our mission and with that mission, we've taken that very seriously and feed hundreds to thousands on a regular basis," adds Pastor Jim Powell, Mountain View Christian Center.
Pastor Powell tells us the church received a donation of 320,000 pounds of potatoes that was donated locally and to Hurricane Sandy victims.
Starting Thursday at 10 a.m., they're giving away four plus pallets of bakery items, even surprise items. That's at the Mountain View Christian Center in Burley.
The church also offers monthly food giveaways on the third Tuesday of each month.
Mountain View Christian would like to thank the other partners including: Simplot, Walmart, Smith's, Convoy of Hope, Feed the Children and World Vision.
