Burley City Council Votes To Pay Monthly Installments
Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Burley City Council held an emergency meeting today about their law enforcement beginning October first.
Last week they turned down Cassia County's offer to continue their law enforcement contract. The county asked for an increase of roughly $300,000 a year. Today the city council voted four to one to pay the county just under $121,000 a month. That's up from their current monthly rate of $117,000.
Burley Mayor Terry Greenman says, "My concern is if we don't have that 120 days in that contract, which will not have on a month-to-month basis. They could leave us hanging. And then we're going to be scrambling to put this together."
The increased payment the council approved adds up to the $1.45 million they decided on last Tuesday. The monthly payment was proposed because the two parties haven't agreed yet.
The Burley City Council members explain now it's up to Cassia County to decide if they'll still provide law enforcement for the city. Right now it's uncertain if they'll do so.
