CSI Adds New Millwright Program For Newmont Mining

By Jay Michaels

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Newmont Mining has some large scale gold mines in northern Nevada.

Now the company is teaming up with the College of Southern Idaho to train potential mine workers. The pilot millwright program is three semesters long, and the first class gets under way on March 4th. Today Newmont was at CSI displaying their special gold-plated custom motorcycle.

Joe Quintana, Training Manager for the Phoenix Mine Site, says, "We want to really promote working with our hands again. We will send people to school for the trades, and we'll provide scholarships for folks to go to school to get the skills that they need to come to work for us."

Quintana says the custom cycle was built for the "American Chopper" TV show. He says the bike provides an opening to talk to people about Newmont's mining business.
