CSI Star Party Takes Over City Of Rocks

By Joey Martin

City Of Rocks, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) The 7th annual CSI Star Party kicked off this afternoon out at the city of rocks.

And despite the wet weather, groups gathered to enjoy the views.

Every year the College of Southern Idaho and the Herrett Center sponsor the event.

It's a time for local star gazers to get out of the city lights and enjoy the stars in a pristine condition.

Chris Anderson is the Observatory Coordinator for the Herrett Centers Faulkner Planetarium.

He says the rural location gives his telescopes the best chance to explore the sky's the best way possible.

"We do it here because we have some really dark sky's... in fact; it's probably one of the darkest places you can drive to in Idaho. That means more targets to be seen and the ones we can see are brighter and better looking."
Said Chris Anderson.

If you weren't able to make it out to the party today.

Don't worry... You still have day two to enjoy the fun.

The group will be out at the city of rocks all day on Saturday.

They will be located at the Smoky Mountain Campground, inside Castle Rock State Park... About 1 mile south of Almo.
