UPDATE: Fire Continues To Burn Near Redfish Lake

UPDATE 4:35 PM - Fire crews are continuing to provide structure protection and work to contain the fire perimeter west of Highway 75 and south of Redfish Lake Road.

An Emergency Area Closure was put into effect this morning in order to provide protection to forest visitors from the current fire safety hazards.

Highway 75 is currently open, but there may be delays this afternoon and evening if fire activity along the highway increases.

Firefighter and public safety are always the main concern. There have been no injuries to firefighters and structures in the area continue to be threatened although none have been lost.

Visitors to the area should call ahead for up to date information to plan recreation events.


UPDATE 10:16 AM - The fire near Redfish Lake being called the 210 fire, has grown to about 200 acres. The fire, started Monday, has burned mostly Lodge Pole Pine. Julie Thomas with the Sawtooth National Forest said the campgrounds in the area and the Buckhorn subdivision have been evacuated. The fire has crossed highway 75. The power was cut to 281 customers south of Redfish Lake Lodge but according to the Salmon River Electric, that should be restored today. Power to the lodge remained on throughout the night. The lodge is open today. Thomas said the line around the fire has not been established. About 100 personnel are on the scene of the fire. The cause remains under investigation. A Type I team will arrive Wednesday to assist. So far no structures have burned.
State Highway 75 between mileposts 183 and 185 has been re-opened to motorists. That according to the Idaho State Police. Authorities say with the fire still burning, there is a chance of a smoke inversion during the early morning hours causing very low visibility. Motorists should avoid the area if possible police say. Above all use caution if travel on the road cannot be avoided.


Stanley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A fire burning near Red Fish Lake has officials evacuating the area.

The Idaho State Police is currently assisting the Custer County Sheriff's Office and the Idaho Transportation Department with a forest fire near Red Fish Lake.

The fire is off of State Highway 75 near milepost 185.

According to dispatchers, the fire broke out Monday afternoon.

The campground in the area is under evacuation and road blocks are in place.

They are asking all motorists to avoid the area at this time.

We will have more information on this fire just as soon as it becomes available.
