Canyon Rim Dance Classic Helping Those With Cancer
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A dance competition here in the Magic Valley is hoping to help those with cancer.
Sabrina Underwood is a dancer, college student and has leukemia.
"It hits home because it's supporting what I've been doing and what I've been going through."
Underwood is talking about the Canyon Rim Dance Classic, and she's a veteran.
"Ever since it got started, I've been dancing here."
This is the 13th year of the Canyon Rim Dance Classic. Over the past 12 years, the event has raised almost $70,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The organizers of the event are passionate about helping those with cancer.
"So many people are affected by it. It's so far reaching and it evolves... and we have to try to keep up. We're still not on top of it yet and it affects everyone."
Dance competitions are usually about winning, but many people aren't looking for that here.
"It's an opportunity for our dancers to learn that they're healthy and they're fortunate and can do something for those who need their help."
"The nice thing is that it's not a cutthroat type of competition. It's a really great reason everybody's out here supporting dance... a lot of the proceeds go to help fight cancer."
The Canyon Rim Dance Classic is taking place Friday and Saturday.
