LINCOLN COUNTY, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - A woman who admitted to burglarizing several cars in Richfield will now be on probation.

A noticeably distraught 28–year old Brandy Shilling was in court to learn her fate.

She was sentenced to 3 to 6 years behind bars.

But, a Lincoln County judge suspended that sentence.

Shilling is now on four years of probation with the stipulation that she attends mental health court.

She also has to pay a variety of fines.

It was at the Richfield Rodeo Grounds Shilling admitted to breaking into several vehicles, stealing purses and credit cards. She broke the window out of at least one of the vehicles to get inside.

A sheriff's deputy pulled shilling over along Highway 26 in June of last year after someone reported seeing the two suspected burglars leaving the fairgrounds in a car matching its description.

According to the deputy's report, Shilling stole about half a dozen credit cards and at least three purses.

The purses were ditched along Highway 26 before she was pulled over.

The deputy reportedly found the credit cards on Donna Shilling, Brandy's mother–in–law, who was also arrested and charged with burglary.

For people that live in the area, it's a sign that things may be changing.

"You know it happened a lot in Hailey and Bellevue although most of those are opportunistic where the vehicles were unlocked. There have be somewhere the windows have been smashed out. Richfield doesn't seem like the place for that."

"I think overall we're still a really great community, but every place has a few desperate people that make poor decisions when things get tight."

Although Shilling apologized to the judge for her wrongdoing, for people in this community, it may not be enough.

Shilling reportedly told the deputy she was headed to Gooding to buy groceries with the stolen cards.

Her mother–in–law, Donna, has a jury trial scheduled in March.
