Care Convoy Brings Ambulance, Fire Trucks To Mexico

By Alexa Tieu

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) A local non-profit group left for Mexico today for a good cause.

The Care Convoy is driving an ambulance and possibly two fire trucks to Chihuahua, Mexico.

Care Convoy finds local area emergency vehicles not being used and donates them to areas in need of the supplies.

Instead of being sent to the scrap yard, the two fire engines were donated by the Bliss Fire Department.

The organization is just trying to help out the communities they're bringing supplies to.

Todd Jaynes, the Director of Care Convoy says, "what we're doing is we're doubling their ambulance capacity and they don't have any fire trucks. Right now they fight fires with just an old pump or the lake, and just hoses off of that. Hopefully they can save some lives and some property with the fire stuff and hopefully save lives with the ambulance and doing medical."

The convoy also takes donations of old medical equipment which may not be up to United States health standards.

A lot of these items, like wooden backboards or wash buckets, are still useful in international locations.
