Castle Rocks State Park Hosts Valentine Couples
Almo, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Snowshoeing on Valentine's Day. It might sound strange, but it could work out better than you think.
This year, three couples headed for the hills to spend the day and night at Castle Rocks State Park.
Rodney and Bobby Crow from Rupert saw an advertisement about the "Valentine Excursion" at Castle Rocks State Park. Rodney had the presence of mind to make reservations here, so all Bobby had to do was take two days off of work.
Rodney Crow says, "We'd seen it advertised in the newspaper, and we'd never been snowshoeing before, and though it would be a neat weekend for us."
The park has been holding this annual Valentine Excursion for at least five years now. Couples can rent the lodge or other overnight accommodations, go for a snowshoe hike in the park, and then have lunch in the great outdoors.
Park Ranger Juanita Jones says, "Eagle Grove, which is the place we're going to stop and have lunch. It's in the trees, it's peaceful. Then we're going to continue on another little hike up in the rocks, I like to show them the rocks."
The ladies received roses and the men got gift bags with chocolate. Jones says the couples could also take a dip in Durfee Hot Springs after the hike. Then some of them were looking forward to a steak dinner in the nearby town of Almo.
If you'd like to reserve the lodge or the bunk house at Castle Rocks State Park, you can call Juanita Jones at 824-5916.
