City Of Hollister Hosts Special Meeting Regarding Acid Whey Disposal Operation
Hollister, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - The mayor of Hollister held a special town meeting Tuesday over an acid whey disposal operation outside of town.
Hollister owns roughly 170 acres near a pond used by contract hauler Carney incorporated owned by Reed Gibby to hold acid whey.
This is a byproduct from Chobani.
The whey is fed into an irrigation system and sprinkled on farmland.
Since Chobani's visit last month, Gibby has stopped hauling the whey into the pond.
Around 40 residents attended the meeting, held at the grange hall in Hollister.
Local and state officials also attended the meeting.
Besides the acid whey issue, the community is concerned about not being involved from the beginning.
