Concerns over climbing areas in Idaho parks
JEROME, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Bureau of Land Management Twin Falls District Resource Advisory Council met in Jerome Wednesday.
The RAC discussed rock climbing, camping and other activities at places such as castle rocks. Since 2003, there's been a series of temporary closures on BLM land and it's being proposed to make these closures permanent. Members of the public voiced their concerns. A Shoshone–Bannock tribe member refers to these places as "sacred" and wants the land protected. An avid rock climber says there needs to be a common ground between rock climbers and the agency. A BLM spokesperson says this afternoon they formed a sub-committee to dive deeper into the issue. The sub-committee will decide whether or not to make a recommendation to the BLM. Comments ( |
