DOT Foods Employees Reveal Team Driving Secrets

By Jay Michaels

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Nationwide, DOT Foods has more than 900 truck drivers for its eight distribution centers.

In Burley, DOT Foods has hired 110 drivers in the five years it's been open.

Overall, the company has a total of 37 driving teams. Locally, five of them are based in Burley. And it takes some special skills to make team driving work successfully.

Team Driver Clark Lewis says, "If you're going to team drive, make sure you're good with that person you're going to team with, because it's tight quarters."

His partner Shelly Weyers says, "More than that, you've got to trust the person that you're with, because you're sleeping while they're driving. And you've got to know they're being able to drive down the road without having an accident."

Many DOT driving teams are friends, some are siblings, and four out of the five based in Burley are married.

This couple has logged 120,000 miles in the last six months. They've driven to and from Illinois, as well as Oregon, Washington, and South Dakota.
