Deadly Local History Becomes Comic Play
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) A brand new play written by a local woman is debuting at the Twin Falls Center for the Arts.
Stephanie Holman wrote the play "Lady Bluebeard" about Twin Falls' first serial killer, who poisoned four of her husbands almost a hundred years ago. Lyda Southard boiled arsenic out of flypaper and added it to some of the dishes she served her men. Holman says, "That's what we play up is the fact that she was so cute and charming, and these men just fell for her, and got the insurance policy she asked for, and then she knocked them off." Southard is buried in the Twin Falls Cemetery under the name Anna E. Shaw, which is the last name of her seventh husband. The bad news is that the tickets for tomorrow and Saturday's shows of the “Lady Bluebeard” dinner theater are already sold out. Holman says she's not sure when they'll schedule more performances yet.
