Delivery Drivers Needed for Twin Falls Senior Center
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV )
The Twin Falls Senior Center delivers over one hundred meals per day to homebound seniors in the community.
But they're in need of some help.
Offering a helping hand is easy.
All it takes is a proof of car insurance and being over the age of 18 years old.
And of course, the desire to help others.
Four days a week, Cathi Leeming starts off her morning feeling like she's making a difference.
A year and a half ago, Leeming started volunteering as a delivery driver at the Twin Falls Senior Center.
Says Leeming, "you meet so many interesting people and otherwise you wouldn't meet them."
There are ten drivers at the senior center.
But, due to high demand for meals, that's not nearly enough.
Says Jeanette Roe, financial director at the Twin Falls Senior Center, "last year we delivered over 29,000 home delivered meals to people in Twin Falls. We handle more home delivered meals than any other senior center in our area and it's a lot."
Leeming says, "every day is different but a typical day is usually bringing food to nine to ten different households"
For drivers like Cathi the most rewarding part of the experience is helping those in need.
Says Leeming, "you actually feel like you're doing something for the community and doing something to make people happy."
Agrees Roe, it’s "very humbling to find that a lot of people this isn't their chance to be homebound and this is their only contact with the outside world and they so appreciate it."
All of the delivery drivers are volunteers, and their commitment ranges.
Typically, a delivery route takes an hour and a half to complete.
Says Roe, "we have drivers that come from all ages and all walks of life. They can just do it one day a week or they can do it every day.”
Most important is for drivers to be friendly and want to help seniors in need.
If you would like to volunteer as a delivery driver, you may call the senior center at 734–5084.
