Digital Mammography Arriving At St. Luke's Jerome
Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV) St. Luke's Jerome is welcoming a new addition next year.
The hospital is installing a Hologic Digital Mammography Unit in January. A number of fundraising efforts gave St. Luke's Jerome the opportunity to purchase this technology.
Officials say digital technology images enhance image quality and improve diagnostic outcomes.
Idaho as a whole, ranks last in the nation for mammograms or breast sound exams for qualifying women. This, according to the National Cancer Institute.
Dawn Soto, St. Luke's Magic Valley Health Foundation says, "the St. Benedict's Health Foundation had been around for many years and we raised funds to provide for the healthcare needs of the Jerome community and surrounding area and recently we joined forces with St. Luke's Magic Valley Health Foundation. And by doing that, we were able to pool our resources together to get this wonderful machine that is so well–needed here in the Jerome area."
"This is really going to enhance the opportunity to have digital mammography and this technology closer to home. Folks that are just outside of Jerome that don't really want to travel too far possibly are able to come here and get those high quality images," adds Brian Davis, Radiology Manager, St. Luke's Jerome.
It's expected the equipment will be ready for use during the first week of February.
