Dishwashing/Laundry Pods Pose Safety Risk To Kids
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) While clothing and dishwashing pods are designed to reduce spills and effectively remove stains, medical experts caution their design is very tempting to children because they resemble a teething toy or candy.
Statistics show that between May and June, the number of cases reported to poison centers nationwide jumped from 200 to 1,210. In one situation, a toddler began vomiting and had to be put on a ventilator after biting into a packet. Page Geske of Safe Kids of Magic Valley warns parents to keep the pods in higher spaces, out of children's reach. "Or if they're going to keep them below the cabinets, then make sure they have cabinet locks and that sort of thing in their kitchen or laundry room," adds Geske. Geske has been encouraged to educate the public about these safety hazards to prevent unintentional injuries from happening. Comments ( |
