Downed Trees; Branches Make For Busy Days Ahead

Twin Falls County, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Tuesday's storms left behind downed trees and power lines in its path.

"You weren't here and the wind storms blowing, branches were falling and I went to the basement," adds John Pitz, Twin Falls County Fair Manager.

That's Bonnie Seaman of the Twin Falls County Fair Office telling Pitz what he missed on Tuesday.

When Pitz arrived, he found quite a mess.

"We had to move branches off the driveway before I could pull in and we lost the tops off two or three trees during the storm yesterday and a couple of small powerlines. We didn't get any major building damage this time around."

What he is referring to is a storm last winter...much greater damage than what we saw this week.

"We had two big trees blow down in the park, took the corner off the youth building, blew at 90–foot set of bleacher upside down...we had $125,000 worth of damage from that storm."

Over at the Twin Falls Golf Club, ten trees saw severe damage as well as some minor landscaping.

The 65 foot tree fell victim to Tuesday's wind storm, provided for one of the many reasons why the Twin Falls Golf Club is closed on Wednesday.

Todd Andersen, Supervisor, Twin Falls Parks and Recreation Department adds, "they're going to be working on the trees, it's probably going to take them a week, maybe two weeks to get them all out."

But Andersen tells us the parks in Twin Falls only lost three trees all together, a testament to the city's pruning system.

"I think it's due to better pruning practices we've come up with the last seven years so we've encountered very little damage to the parks, but obviously the golf course had a lot," adds Andersen.

Golfers don't have to wait long to get on the green as the club is scheduled to open on Thursday.
