Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) “The limit does not exist.”

It's a common saying in calculus, and for a high school math teacher, it holds true.

Nancy Jones of Twin Falls High School is January’s teacher of the month.

Jones teaches algebra one and geometry to freshmen and sophomores.

When it comes to her students, she strives to create a learning environment which helps them step beyond their discomfort with math, making her classroom a place that students want to be.

"I mainly try to build a relationship with my students so that what I’m teaching has value to them because some kids come into my class, and have either had a bad experience with math or feel like they're not good at it. I feel like my job is to help convince them that they can learn it and learn it well," Jones explains.

Jones emphasizes a vocabulary rich approach in her instruction methods.

She says she teaches words and then tries to simplify definitions so students can pick up the meaning and use them in math.
