Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Changes are coming to the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.

The hospital is undergoing an expansion the next 11-months.

The hospital was built in the mid 90's and hasn't had any additions since then, which is why hospital officials are excited for more space.

The cassia regional medical center is seeing high volumes in emergency room use. Now the ER will be larger to accommodate more patients with an expansion on the way.

"This project will expand our emergency department and our radiology department. We will do some renovations in the current departments,” said Rod Barton, Cassia Regional Medical Center.

The new ER will have a separate entrance and a larger waiting room. as for the radiation department improvement an MRI will now be located inside the hospital rather than in a trailer.

"This is just the first phase of a multi-phase construction plan that we have for this building for the next five to ten years” said Barton.

The hospital is 100,000 square feet; the expansion would add another 4,000 square feet.

"It's not a large expansion and that's why the renovation of the existing departments is going to be such an important part of this project."

Just the first steps to improving a local medical facility.

The expansion is expected to be completed late spring 2014.
