Twin Falls, Idaho - Even though our economy isn't in the best shape right now, more people are expected to hit the road and take to the skies for Labor Day than last year.
Last year just over 31 million Americans traveled during the Labor Day weekend; this year, almost ten percent more people have already rented cars and made hotel reservations.
Student Kelsi Hardison says, “There's more cars out on the road, I've noticed but guess I'm traveling a lot more so I notice them.”
Here in Idaho, the price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline is $2.99 cents, 29 cents above the national average.
AAA Idaho Spokesman Dave Carlson says Idaho’s price is the sixth highest in the nation, and there's no explanation why gas prices here have been 16 cents a gallon above the national average since March.
Robert Huber says, “Being' on vacation, I run all year long, I run east coast, west coast. I see all kinds of people going' on vacation. I wanted to get the head start 'cause I know what it's going to be like.
Carlson says that nine out of ten people will travel by automobile during the Labor Day weekend, with about five percent flying and the remaining travelers will take trains or boats to get where they're going.
While driver Joe Lineberry says, “I've talked to a few people, the campground was pretty crowded a couple weeks ago when we were there. And a lot of them said they were trying to beat all the holidays, get it over with, and get the kids back to school.”
