Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - FOX has announced plans to feature the attempts to jump the Snake River Canyon in September. In a release FOX said they will broadcast, during a live special, the attempts of Eddie Braun and daredevil Big Ed Beckley to jump across Idaho’s Snake River Canyon. Both men are hoping to achieve what Knievel could not. Crossing the gaping 500 foot deep canyon.
Eddie Braun, an experienced Hollywood stuntman, will attempt to jump the canyon in a steam powered rocket. It’s being built by a team headed by Scott Record and Scott Truax. On Braun’s twitter page, he wrote that plans are to design the rocket to look like Knievel’s original Skycycle X-2, which Truax’s father help build. He will launch from private land in Jerome county and land on Private land in Twin Falls County near the Hansen Bridge.
Big Ed Beckley said his jump would take place on Sunday September 7, 2014, utilizing the premises he has leased from the State of Idaho. Beckley won the bid to the state, paying nearly a million dollars for the use of the land. Beckley plans to cap the number of tickets to be sold at 10-thousand. Beckley also said he would like to reserve the Jerome county Fairgrounds for Friday and Saturday September 5 and 6, 2014 to hold a monster truck rally.
Beckley said his jump will be over a 1,000 feet longer than Braun’s jump. He plans to begin testing his rocket powered machine next month.
