SUN VALLEY, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - The Sun Valley Nordic Festival is wrapping up this weekend.

Crowds lined the finish line of the Boulder Mountain Tour to cheer on the competitors of the famous marathon.

For local cross country skier John Kurtz, Saturday's race was bitter sweet.

"Ah, I've definitely had better races, but it's always fantastic to be out there. You know, it was great weather and fun course. It was in great shape. It was a really good day," said John Kurtz, Bellevue resident and competitor.

As Kurtz explains, the festival is fun for all ages.

"It's very family oriented. There's a lot of kids out there that are racing and really having a good time. And doing very well," said Kurtz.

The Boulder Mountain Tour is the cornerstone of ski week. People come from all over to ski in one of the longest running ski races in U.S. history.

"Beautiful weather, fun course. A lot of colorful people along the course," said a competitor from Norway.

"I mean it's just super fun. I mean it's competitive for sure, but most of all it's what this sport is all about. Just taking the corners and gliding up and over the hills and enjoying the outdoors," said Alexa Turzian, Sun Valley native and competitor.

"They put on a fantastic event. You know all the volunteers who help out, the logistics that go into it. It's unbelievable how well it's put together. And, comes off without a hitch," said Kurtz.

"We have a lot of friends in the race a lot of people from Idaho in the race, Utah and all around. So, it's always good to watch them all come through,” said Kingsley Murphy, spectator.

Creating an atmosphere that's fun for both spectators and competitors.
