Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) If Christmas is coming, you can be sure that the Festival of Trees is on the way.
The event opened tonight with the gala, which kicks off a major fundraising drive for the St. Luke's Magic Valley Health Foundation. The 28th annual Festival of Trees is being held at the Historic Ballroom in downtown Twin Falls. Trees festively decorated in every theme from traditional to jungle chic were bid on during the gala to set a price for each tree.
Alice Elwood with the St. Luke's Health Foundation says, "We'll get them as high as we can. Then there are prices put on them for the rest of the festival. And any individual coming in is more than free to buy them. We encourage them to do that. We also have wreaths, table decorations, quilts, just lots of pretty seasonal things."
The money raised by the Festival of Trees this year will go to the "Air Ambulance Hangar" project at St. Luke's Magic Valley, which they want to build just east of the existing heliport pad.
Elwood says, "We have a hangar design that we hop to start building in May. To do that, we need to raise almost half a million dollars. We've set a goal for ourselves of April 15th. So that's what we're shooting for, and all the proceeds from the entire festival will go to the air ambulance hangar."
Senior Day is from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7th. Children's Day will be Saturday the 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., also. Ladies Night at the Festival of Trees is another ticketed event beginning Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. And if you can't make it any other day, Sunday December 9th between 12 noon and 5:00 p.m. is Family Day.
The admission price for the Festival of Trees is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for children.
