Filer Recall Petition Fails

By KMVT News

Filer, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) A controversial petition to recall local city leaders in Filer is dead.

A group wanting to recall Mayor Rick Dunn and all four City Council members had 75 days to collect 201 signatures for each city leader.

However, the group did not get the necessary names.

Many in Filer were unhappy with the way the City Council and mayor handled the situation after Officer Tarek Hassani shot and killed a man's dog.

The story drew nationwide attention.

Mayor Rick Dunn shares his feelings about the process…

"It is a political process; that's one of the great things about our country. If you think that you are being wronged, there is an avenue to see if other people think the same way. In this case, not everybody thought the same way. And I think that they had a time to think about it and that's what the process is for."

The deadline for the petition was five o’clock Monday, but the city says they did not receive anything.
