UPDATE 10:42 p.m. ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A Wendell family loses a barn and 17 calves after an afternoon fire.
The Coronado family had 24 calves before this afternoon and only seven remain.
The family tells Idaho's First News they conducted a controlled burn the other day on the property. But due to Saturday's winds of nearly 30 miles an hour, the wind picked up some embers and the fire erupted.
Unfortunately, the family didn't notice the fire until they saw a fire truck drive by.
"We got a lot of financial income from that so we're not going to be getting it now," adds Karla Coronado.
Firefighters worked for a half an hour to bring the fire under control and remained on the scene for a few hours. The Coronado family hopes to raise new calves after this loss.
