Fires Continue To Burn On Twin Falls BLM District Land

UPDATED INFORMATION 9:45AM WEDNESDAY AUGUST 8, 2012 The Flat Top 2 fire now listed at 95,000 acres. The fire near Kimama Butte is 20% contained. The Hotwell Fire is still listed as active Southern Idaho (KMVT-TV) – There are many district and surrounding resources working to control the fires on the Twin Falls District. Here is the latest information provided by the BLM. While the Oakley Reservoir and East Hollister fires are wrapping up, the Flat Top 2 fire continued to grow last night and has been updated at 25,000 acres. The Hotwell fire also picked up in activity this afternoon and crews are working to contain both of these fires. With hot, dry weather and many active fires on public lands as well as the forest, we ask that the public be extra cautious in these areas. Below is the fire update: Oakley Reservoir Location – S of Oakley on BLM land Start Time – August 5th at 6:34 p.m. Size – 70 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 3 Engines Contained August 6th at 8:00 a.m. Control – August 7th at 6:00 p.m. Update – Due to the weather in the area yesterday and other fire activity on the district the control time was pushed back. Resources were also able to get a more accurate mapping of the fire and the size was re-established at 70 acres. Flat Top 2 Location – 8 miles NE of Kamima on BLM land Start Time – August 5th at 10:23 p.m. Size – 25000 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 9 Engines, 2 Water Tenders, 3 Dozers, West End Rural Fire Department, 2 Single Engine Air Tankers, 1 Air Attack and 1 Helicopter Contain – August 8th at 8:00 p.m. Control – August 10th at 8:00 p.m. Update – With help from the wind the fire continued to grow yesterday and is currently still active at this time. Hotwell Location – 6 miles SE of Declo on BLM land Start Time – August 5th at Midnight Size – 60 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 3 Engines, Albion Rural Fire Department, 1 Lead Plane, 1 Air Attack, 4 Single Engine Air Tankers, and 1 Heavy Air Tanker (MAFFS) Contain – August 7th at 8:00 p.m. Control – August 8th at 8:00 p.m. Update – The fire broke out this afternoon, and due to difficult terrain in the area the fire was able to pick up in activity. Many of the air resources were dispatched to the Hotwell fire to assist in getting the flames knocked down. Resources continue to strive for the estimated contain time.
