First Baby of the New Year Born at St. Luke's Magic Valley
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV) A baby boy has the prestigious honor of being the first born in 2013 at St. Luke's Magic Valley.
"I can't believe that he came out of me it's kind of a weird feeling," Kala Lirette, new mother.
Kala Lirette is the proud mother of the first baby to be born at the hospital this year.
"We're doing very good. The pediatrician says he's very healthy and everything is good so far," said Lirette.
It was late New Year's Eve when Lirette was admitted to the hospital.
"I was having really bad lower back pain and the doctor told me I should probably come in and get checked," said Lirette.
When Lirette arrived she was already four centimeters dilated and within hours she was holding her new baby boy.
"He was 8.25 pounds and 20.5 inches long. I think he is the best and he's so cute and I love how he makes these little noises when he's sleeping," said Lirette.
Each New Year St. Luke's showers the first baby born with hundreds of dollars in gifts.
"It's the beginning of new life, a new year, it's a wonderful way to just bless a family in our community," said Page Geske, St. Luke’s Magic Valley.
Little Emit received blankets, a baby monitor, bassinet, clothes, burp cloths, a camera and a car seat from Safe Kids Magic Valley.
"The first trip the baby makes is going to be from the hospital to their home and we want to make sure that they start out with the gift of safety,” said Geske.
It's a New Year's Day this mother won't soon forget.
Emit was born around 3:15 a.m.
But, he won't be the only baby born Tuesday.
At least five other mothers were in labor and delivery preparing to give birth.
