Flat Top 2 and Hot Well Fires Continue To Burn Area Public BLM Lands
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) – Thursday, the Flat Top 2 and Hot Well fire have remained active. Late in the afternoon it was reported that the Hot Well fire has become very active on the east side and air resources were sent to help slow the fire progression. The three small fires reported yesterday, Cliff Hollow, South Three Creek, and Deadwood have been controlled. The Highway 30 fire has been contained, but resources remain on scene to ensure it is fully controlled. Specific fire details are listed below.
Flat Top 2 Location – 8 miles NE of Kimama on BLM land Start Time – August 5th at 10:23 p.m. Size – 135,000 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 15 Engines, 2 Water Tenders, 4 Dozers, 1 Air Attack & 1 Helicopter Update – The fire is still active, but the activity has slowed a little from yesterday’s progression. Air resources that were on scene this morning were sent to the Hot Well fire to help with the activity there. There are still numerous resources committed to this fire as there has still been no containment or control time established. Contain – no containment time (Currently 40% contained) Control – no control time Hot Well Location – 6 miles SE of Declo on BLM land Start Time – August 5th at Midnight Size – 3045 acres Cause – Lightning Resources – 10 Engines, 3 Dozers, Albion Rural Fire Department’s Water Tender, 3 Single Engine Air Tanker, 1 Helicopter & 1 Air Attack Update – Fire activity picked up in the late afternoon and air resources from the Flat Top 2 fire were reassigned to help slow the progression of this fire. Difficult terrain remains a problem for firefighters as they continue to battle the blaze. For that reason three hand crews have been ordered to assist with the suppression effort. Contain – no containment time (Currently 20% contained) Control – no control time Highway 30 Location –Near the Bliss rest stop and Highway 30, south of Interstate 84 on BLM land Start Time –August 8, approximately 8:30 a.m. Size – 1887 acres Cause – Lightning Resources –8 Engines, 1 Dozer &1 Water Tender Update – The resources on scene made good progress this morning and were able to contain the fire at noon today. The control time has been set back as unfavorable weather is expected in the area and resources want to ensure the fire is fully controlled before resources are released.
