Folded Ballots Delay Voting Results Being Released

Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Counties all over Idaho had problems with their voting machines last night, and early this morning.

Workers in Jerome county ran into difficulties when they tried to process their absentee ballots. This year the privacy envelopes require those ballots to be folded, which caused problems with the optical scanning machines.

Jerome County Clerk Michelle Emerson says, "That you stack something heavy on them to help smooth out the fold. And we did that, but it didn't seem to want to feed them in. So we were probably late in getting our results back on the absentees."

Emerson says she talked with the company who made the machines. And there are some adjustments they can make in the back so the machines will work better. She says this is the third time they've used them, but it's the first time they processed this many ballots.
