Four New Fires Reported On Area Public Lands As Storm Passes Through The Area

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) – Firefighters are working to gain control of several fires burning on public land in Southern Idaho, but their efforts are being hampered by weather conditions. Red Flag Warnings are in effect until 8:00 p.m. tonight. There have already been 4 new fires reported today. Resources on the Flat Top 2 and Hot Well fire continue to work on containing the fires, while the Highway 30 fire has been fully controlled and all resources have been released. Below is the detailed information on each fire. Also, included is a photo of one of the Heavy Air Tankers that have been used to support the firefighting efforts across south central Idaho in the last week. The aircraft is known as a Modular Air Borne Firefighting System. Many resources and crews from nearby states have been brought in to help with the fire effort as well.

Flat Top 2
Location – 8 miles NE of Kimama on BLM land
Start Time – August 5th at 10:23 p.m.
Size – 140,954 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 18 Engines, 2 Water Tenders & 4 Dozers
Update – The fire was able to get mapped for a more updated acreage. Crews remain on scene working to establish a containment and control time.
Contain – no containment time (Currently 40% contained)
Control – no control time

Hot Well
Location – 6 miles SE of Declo on BLM land
Start Time – August 5th at Midnight
Size – 3056 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 10 Engines, 3 Dozers & Albion Rural Fire Department’s Water Tender
Update – Fire activity has slowed, as compared to yesterday. Resources continue to work hard to get the fire contained. The Hot Well fire has now been taken over by the Minidoka Complex Incident Management Team. For more information regarding this fire please call 1-800-631-4874.
Contain – no containment time (Currently 20% contained)
Control – no control time

Highway 30
Location –Near the Bliss rest stop and Highway 30, south of Interstate 84 on BLM land
Start Time –August 8, approximately 8:30 a.m.
Size – 1887 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources –8 Engines, 1 Dozer &1 Water Tender
Update – The fire has been fully controlled at noon today and no resources remain on scene.

Berger
Location – North of Hollister
Start Time – August 10, approximately 6:30 a.m.
Size – 77 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 5 Engines & 1 Water Tender
Update – Salmon Tract Rural Fire Department was on scene earlier today, but have been released from the fire. The fire is expected to be fully controlled tonight.
Contained at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon
Control – August 10th at 9:00 p.m.

North Hollister
Location – A few miles north east of Hollister
Start Time – August 10, afternoon
Size – ¾ acre
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 1 Engine & Salmon Tract Rural Fire Department
Update – The fire has been fully contained and is expected to be controlled at 4:00 p.m.

Location – 10 miles South of Malta, Idaho
Resources – 4 Engines, Raft River Rural Fire Department, 1 Air Attack, 1 Helicopter, & 1 Single Engine Air Tanker
Update – The report came in around 2:20 p.m. and resources are responding. No other information is known at this time.

IA #4
Location – East of Rupert, Idaho
Resources – 3 Engines, East End Rural Fire Department, North Cassia Rural Fire Department, 1 Helicopter, 1 Air Attack & 2 Single Engine Air Tankers
Update – The report came in around 2:50 p.m. and resources are responding. No other information is known at this time.
