Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Triple–A predicts holiday travel over the 4th of July to be the highest volume in the past decade. The agency estimates more than 42–million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this fourth of July. Officials believe the high numbers are due to the holiday falling in the middle of the week and lower gas prices.

Brian Gavin is up from Utah, camping at Rock Creek Park for his wife's family reunion.

Gavin says, "we're going to have an auction, some food and fun."

There are approximately 80 people attending this reunion.

Some of the family members include Steven and Trent Thayne who live in Westpoint, Utah and have some ideas of what the holiday festivities will entail when they get back home.

Steven Thayne says, "lots of fireworks. I like fireworks, blowing up stuff."

Trent Thayne adds, "there's a b–ball tournament we're doing, activities going on in the town square."

In just a few days, barber Ranae Sparks heads to Oregon for the fourth of July, leaving her razor behind.

Sparks adds, "we're taking a trip to the Oregon Coast for the first time. We're really looking forward to that. My kids have never been there and we decided that this was the year."

The Perrine Barber Shop in downtown Twin Falls is closed on Sundays and Mondays, making for the perfect opportunity to enjoy a long weekend.

Brad Burgess, a barber says, "this year we are going up to Red Fish Lake. So with the fourth actually falling on a Wednesday, I'm able to take a long weekend."

And here in Idaho, fourth of July travel is expected to increase by five percent over last year. And nearly 78% plan to travel by car.
