Furloughed Idaho National Guard Members Return To Work
Boise, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A majority of the furloughed Idaho National Guard members will return to work this week.
For some that means as soon as Monday but for the majority, it will be on Tuesday.
This is due to an announcement made by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.
He says he can legally bring back most of the 350,000 civilian Department of Defense employees.
The DOD can eliminate furloughs for employees whose responsibilities contribute to the morale, well–being and readiness of service members.
"The National Guardsmen that we are recalling this week are directly tied to, generally speaking, our war–fighting missions. There are some who are in support roles that don't directly support that mission, and those are the folks who won't be recalled immediately," adds Col. Tim Marsano, Idaho National Guard.
About 850 were furloughed last week. Now, about 800 will return to work, leaving 50 to wait on lawmakers to agree on government funding.
About half of all full–time Idaho National Huard members have been on furlough.
