Get Your Private Well Water Tested
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) If you have a well inside the city limits, chances are good that it's already regulated. But if you live out in the country, nitrates can be a cause for concern with your private well.
The Department of Environmental Quality holds free screenings for nitrate levels in wells. You can also find out more through a free online class.
Irene Nautch, Regional Drinking Water Protection Coordinator for DEQ in Twin Falls, says, "It gives you an idea whether the nitrates are high or low. If they're concerned about it, they should take it to the local lab, which is Magic Valley Labs. They'll have to pay for it."
Nitrates are a chemical form of nitrogen that naturally occurs in soil and ground water. For more information on getting your private well water tested, call Irene Nautch at 736-2190. Find out more about the online class at privatewellclass.org .
