Getting A Jump On Being Prepared For Disasters

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Earlier this week, we showed you how easy it is to begin preparing for a disaster. The good news is you may already have a head start.

A local woman says if you have some canned food and drinking water set aside, that's a good beginning.

And if the water in your containers starts to look 'ropy,' there's a fairly easy way refresh it.

"And to fix that, you just pour the water back and forth. It fluffs it up, lets the oxygen go, 'Oh, I'm safe.' It separates and it will taste better, too," adds Nan Jackson, Surviving in Style.

Jackson says if you start with clean water, and store the container in a safe place, your water should be stable. You can treat the water beforehand with drops or tablets to purify it. But if your water drum is clear, sunlight could get in and cause algae to grow in the water.
