Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The first ever marathon in Twin Falls is just days away.

The event has been one year in the making.

It's an event that can only grow in the future.

Runners are tying up their shoes and logging miles.

All in preparation for the first ever full marathon in Twin Falls.

“It's a first time ever event so it's hard to know how many people we are going to end up with. We realize it will probably be smaller for this first year. But, then we hope to build it with each year,” said Ben Harman, YMCA of Twin Falls.

The Canyon Rim Marathon is Saturday. The race isn't like others.

“The idea was to make it a marathon that is different from other marathons. The idea was because we have this beautiful canyon to run most if not all of the race on the rim. With the final course, it's half on the rim and half not,” said Harman.

"A marathon is a big thing. It's not like going out and running a three mile race so you obviously have to train for it,” said Harman.

The course itself will be challenging.

"There will be some challenges in the course – there is flat area. So going out on long runs. There is also some up and down so hill training would be critical,” said Harman.

You can still sign up for the Canyon Rim Marathon.

The purpose of this event is to promote youth fitness in the Magic Valley.

The proceeds will be used to build programs and scholarships.
