WENDELL, ID (KMVT) Gooding County is continuing to lay the groundwork for a new regional jail that would be built in Wendell.

The Gooding County Sheriff says the jail committee met this week to nail down a price for the old building. He says then the next step is to begin gathering the money so that construction can start in May or June of this year.

Sheriff Shaun Gough says, "It's gonna be located right along I-84, on the south end of Wendell where the old Cavazo's Restaurant is located right now. We'll tear that building down and put the facility right there."

Gough says that the location just off of Interstate 84 will be easy for law enforcement members to get to. He says the 180 bed regional jail could be open by June or July of next year.
