Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Southern Idaho Regional Communication Center received a grant for $387,501. Part of the grant money will be used upgrade the 9–1–1 system. CenturyLink provided SIRCOMM with an audit of the current 9–1–1. Results of the audit will help determine what upgrades are necessary and how the grant money will be used.

The rest of the grant money will be used to replace aging radio consoles. "This grant will allow SIRCOMM to replace the radio system which is currently in place which is seventeen years old. The system allows dispatchers to alert the responding agencies to the calls for service and emergency calls," John Moore, the agency’s director told us.

The total for both projects will be approximately $511,116. The SIRCOMM Joint Powers Board is working to secure the additional funds to complete the projects.

Funds for the grant were generated by fees on landline, cell phone and VOIP lines. The upgrades are expected to be complete by the spring of 2013.
