Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The BLM and U.S. Forest Service are creating a plan to help save the Greater Sage Grouse.

Tonight an open house was held at the Red Lion Hotel in Twin Falls to get the public's input on the latest Draft Land Use Plan.

Dwindling numbers have forced the organizations to come up with a strategy to restore Greater Sage Grouse populations.

Jessica Gardetto says, "A lot of the problem is greater sage grouse have declined by 40 percent which is a rather large number. And, one of the most important things about that is Greater Sage Grouse are what we call an indicator species. So if you lose greater sage grouse that means you're losing really important ecosystem all across the west."

The BLM is accepting public comments until January 29th.
