Hagerman Celebrates First Ever History Day

Locals celebrated the rich history of the Hagerman Valley on Saturday.
The Hagerman Fossil Beds national monument held its first ever history day.

The day included a number of events, including trail walks and black powder demonstrations.

There was also an opportunity to join a park ranger and learn more about the Oregon Trail or excavate for fossils.

Chief of Interpretation at the monument Carol Ash explains the importance of the event, saying, “The history here the local history is typical of most communities and it’s really fun to delve into your local history it kind of tells you where you've been, where you are right now, and maybe where you might go in the future."

Hagerman History Day is one of 25 events that are scheduled this year to celebrate the monuments 25th anniversary.

The next scheduled event is a night sky party on Saturday May 31st.
