Halstead Fire Near Stanley Now At 34,021 Acres
Stanley, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Halstead fire that started from a lightning strike on July 27, 18 miles northwest of Stanley has now consumed 34,021 acres. Officials say it’s 3% contained. Right now, there are 421 personnel, including 8 hand crews, 14 engines and 3 helicopters at the scene. The fire progressed east yesterday and firefighters conducted successful burnout in Beaver Creek. There was substantial smoke over the east side of the fire and a little bit of activity in the Marsh Creek drainage. Firefighters will continue to work to reduce the fuel load on the forest boundary near private land. With the unstable air and low humidity, firefighters will be ready for initial attack on any new fires that ignite as a result of the lightning over the next few days. Beaver Creek Campground, Lola Creek Campground, Marsh Creek Transfer and Josephus Lake are all closed due to the fire.
