Hansen Schools Begin Summer Lunch Program

Hansen, Idaho (KMVT-TV) School districts all over Southern Idaho are making sure that kids have plenty to eat, even though school's out for summer.

Today was the first day of the summer food program in Hansen. For the next two months, kids can get free lunches beginning at 11:30 a.m. every weekday. And from these enthusiastic smiles here, the ladies in the lunchroom at Hansen High School are doing a pretty good job.

Shari Loveless, Food Service Director for the Hansen School District, says, "The purpose is to feed these little kids while school is out so there's food in their bellies when there may not be enough at home. And our little community does very well with it. This is our second year of having it all through the summer. Usually we've had it only through summer school."

The entrance to the Hansen High School cafeteria is on the south side of the school. Loveless says the summer lunch program is great, and she usually serves about 65 kids on a very busy day.
