Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) In a monumental decision, the supreme court decided Thursday to uphold the mandate of President Obama's Affordable Care Act.

Dr. David Pate, CEO and President of St. Luke's Health system says, "when I first found out that the court decided the penalty was a tax, I really didn't think they were going to go there. When the lower courts decided they wouldn't do it on a basis of a tax, and so I didn't think the Supreme Court would consider that way."

Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson expressed disappointment with the court's decision. He said he is disappointed that the government now has the ability to tax American citizens if they don't purchase a private product. He added that he is concerned that it sets a precedent.

Also, Idaho Senator Mike Crapo expressed his disappointment. He said today's decision was not the ruling that the American people wanted.

House Republicans are promising a repeal vote when they return from a July 4th break.
